Lepine Apartments

Desmond J. Peters (Maj Ret) began his career in 1942 enlisting in the Royal Air Force . Aftert raining in Rhodesia as a pilot he transferred to the Royal Navy and flew Barracuda dive/torpedo bombers. In 1949 he emigrated to Canada and enlisted in Royal Canadian Air Force Aux. At the start of the Korean War he transferred to the Reg force serving Canada and Europe. By the time he retired in 1972 he amassed 7,950 flying hours and flown 48 different aircraft types.

Hero’s Ridge – 23-09-24 Desmond J. Peters

Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Stan Grabstas (retired) joined the Militia in 1975 then enrolled in the Regular Forces in 1977. His service took him around the world in support of humanitarian and peacekeeping operations in Rwanda, Bosnia, Honduras, Haiti,  Cambodia, Bosnia, Cyprus, Western Sahara and Somalia to name but a few. During the first Gulf War, he was deployed forward to assist with the UN evacuation of northern Iraq. Stan retired from the CF (Canadian Forces) in 2005 and continued to work for DND (Department of National Defence). After almost  50 years with DND/CAF and traveling to over 100 countries, he retired in October 2022.

Stefan Delov Sergeant (retired) joined the Reserves as an infantryman in 2003 transferring  to Regular Forces in 2006. There he trained in the  Armoured Reconnaissance trade. In 2008 he deployed to Afghanistan as a gunner. After this tour he went on to be jump qualified and went on to earn the Polish and American wings. Stepan retired in 2019 and continues to serve today as an OPP officer.

Micheal Tipman, Lieutenant Colonel (retired) joined the RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force) in 1965  as a Communications Technician. Micheal was one of the first group of serving members to go to military college graduating in 1977 from RMC (Royal Military College) and received his commission. His engineering duties saw him travel all over Canada and the world including many trips to CFB Alert. He retired from the CF  In 1989. In 1999  returned to the CF (Canadian Forces) working on the project dealing with the effects of Y2K. He retired for the last time in March 2000.

Hero’s Ridge – 23-10-14 Micheal Tipman

Retired Captain Chris Murphy joined theLanark & Renfrew Scottish reserve regiment in 1966 at age 16 transferring  to The Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa (infantry regiment) in 1967 as Lance Corporal.  He rose through the ranks to become Chief Warrant Officer serving as District Sergeant Major for Ottawa Militia District.In 1991 was commissioned as Captain. Chris was deployed during the ice storm in 1998. He retired in 2002 after 36 years of service.

Hero’s Ridge – 23-10-15 Chris Murphy

Calvin (Cal) Clupp enlisted as a Private in reserves in 1975 in the Royal Winnipeg Rifles Regiment. In 1979 he transferred to CF Regular Force where he trained as a radar technician. Cal was deployed to help with the Winnipeg floods, Forest fires in Northern Manitoba and Saskatchewan and missions in CFB Alert. in 1991 Cal received his commission . Cal developed security systems and trained people in their use at DND (Department of National Defence) until his retirement in 1999 after close to 25 years serving our country.

Hero’s Ridge – 23-10-18 Calvin Clupp

(Retired) Captain Tracy Williams joined the military in June of 1984 as a Pte Radio Technician. She steadily advanced through the ranks as Radio Technician fixing radios, televisions and computers. After instructing at the Communications and Electronics School Tracy began training as an Officer Cadet, receiving  her commission in 2000.  Her final posting was in Ottawa where she was the Army Information Systems Security Officer Tracy retired in 2007 after 22 years of service with the military.

Captain (Retired)  Micael Eamer joined the Canadian Forces in 1981. After receiving his commission in 1982 he transferred to the reserves and joined the Stormont Dundas Glengarry Highlanders until 2019. Michael started off as Infantry then remustered to Logistics where his duties ranged from Finance ,Environmental, Supply, Transport and Recruiting. In 1998 he was deployed to OP Recuperation (ice storm). Today he  is a great volunteer at his Branch and is very proud of his military service.

Hero’s Ridge – 23-10-24 Michael Eamer

Retired Sergeant Pierre Habib served in the Canadian armed forces for 15 years as an Imagery Technician and retired in 2021. His service took him around the world to record various Military theatres and special events including NATO Operation “Ignition” in Iceland, Operation “Southern Reach” in Brazil, Chile and Jamaica and Participated in Combat Archer and Red Flag Exercises in Alaska with the 425 Tactical Fighter Squadron as the official photographer in CFB Bagotville. If you’ve ever seen a photo of Canada’s F-18 fighter jets in action, it was likely captured by Sergeant Pierre Habib.

(Retired) Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Wayne Moore MMM, CD joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1960.starting a 34 year career. His trade in Communicator Research saw him posted in  Ottawa, Churchill , Moncton, Gander, Bermuda and 3 tours in Alert. His last posting was at NDHQ (National Defence Headquarters) as the C&E (Communications & Electronics)as Branch Chief .Wayne retired from the Canadian forces in 1994 with 34 Years and 243 days of service to our country.

Retired Master Warrant Officer (MWO) Brendan Hynes joined the Reserves in 1990 transferring to the regular forces in 1996 as a military engineer. During his career he served around the world in various roles such as UN peacekeeper in Bosnia, assisting in disaster relief  after the earthquake in Turkey, and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) technician in Afghanistan and Iraq.In October 2022 Master Warrant Officer Hynes retired from the Canadian Armed Forces after 31 years of service to Canada.

The National Silver Cross Mother acts on behalf of all Canadian mothers who have lost a son or daughter in the line of service, be it in action or over the course of normal duty. From November 1, 2023 to October 31, 2024, Mrs. Hooper will be part of several events honouring Canada’s fallen. Mrs. Hooper’s son, Sapper Chris Holopina was a member of the Canadian Army and served as a Combat Engineer. Chris was killed on July 4, 1996 in Bosnia while on a peacekeeping mission.

Captain (Ret’d) Joseph (Joe) Blanchard  joined the Canadian Forces June 1978 as a Combat Engineer then moved into the Human Resources field becoming an  Hospital Administration Officer until his release in 1998. Joe returned in 2004 to serve again until his medical release in Mar 2013.  During his 30 years of service he was deployed as a Peacekeeper in Cyprus as well as a tour in Afghanistan in 2009.

Hero’s Ridge – 23-11-24 Joseph Blanchard

91 year old (Retired) Leading Seaman, Robert Lamoureux served in the Royal Canadian Navy for 5 years. In 1952 he sailed from Halifax to Korea where he was an Anti Anti-Submarine Torpedo Detector.His grandson is also at the game tonight. Ryan Lomberg plays for the Florida Panthers. Inspired by his grandfather's service Ryan recently started his own foundation with a sole focus on helping military veterans in need.

Hero’s Ridge – 23-11-27 Robert Lamoureux

Retired Chief Warrant Officer Les Closs joined the Canadian Forces in 1972 beginning  a 34 year career in Signals. Les served in Winnipeg, Kingston, CFS Carp (Diefenbunker), and Ottawa. His operational tours included tours with the UN Peacekeeping Forces in Egypt and the Golan Heights and a tour with the NATO Stabilization Force in Sarajevo. CWO Closs retired from the Canadian Forces in Jan 2006. He continues to serve the community as a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 244, Perth Upon Tay where he has been a member since 1975.

Retired Warrant Officer James Cleveland Cowell joined the Canadian Forces in 1977  During his career he served in both the Army and the Airforce He has served in every province and territory of Canada, touching waters of all three oceans as well as the United States, Germany, Italy, and Cypress. In 2011 he was deployed to Afghanistan as a subject matter expert in explosive ordnance disposal (EOD). WO Cowell retired from the Canadian Forces in August 2018.

Hero’s Ridge – 23-12-05 James Cleveland Cowell

John Morrison joined the military 1968 as a Private in the trade of Weapons Technician Land and a member of the Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers.He retired as a Major in 1999, after 30 years of service. During his career he served in New Brunswick and Ontario with a tour in Cyprus. John continues to serve his fellow veterans today as the Chaplain for Zone G-1 and Branch 137 Napanee of the Legion.

Hero’s Ridge – 23-12-07 John Morison

Retired Sergeant Kevin Barter served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 24 years working in the Communications trade. He was deployed 3 times with tours in Italy, Bosnia and Afghanistan. At home he was deployed to deal with the Red River Flood in Winnipeg and the Ice Storm in Ottawa.Kevin’s career ended when he was medically released with PTSD.

Hero’s Ridge – 23-12-12 Kevin Barter

Wil Côté joined the RCAF in July 1956 as a teletype operator He was posted to various locations including Goose Bay, Labrador, Chibougamau in Northern Quebec, North Bay Valcartier,Quebec.and 1(F) Wing Marville in France. In 1963 Wil was a member of the Marville ARROWS hockey team who won the  interwing championship. He completed his 25 year military aviation career at Uplands in July 1981.

Stephane Fortin (Sgt ret’d) Joined the CF in August 2005 as a Medical Technician. While serving in  Afghanistan he received a Commander Canadian Expeditionary Force Command Commendation for saving the life of his driver when their LAV III  (Light Armoured Vehicle) was hit by an IED (Improvised Explosive Device). In 2013 he was part of the  humanitarian mission with the Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) during the typhoon in the Philippines.In Mar 2018 he was medically released due to an injury. He continues to serve the community as a  Paramedic for the United Counties of Prescott and Russell.

Hero’s Ridge – 23-12-29 Stephane Fortin

Petty Officer 2nd class (retired) Tracy Schulz served 21 years in the Navy, serving on multiple ships on the West Coast as a Naval Electronic Sensors Operator. She served with distinction on many deployments throughout the Pacific Ocean working closely with many other nations; USA, Australian, South Korean, Chilean, and Japan to name a few. In 2001 she served on the HMCS Winnipeg,in the Persian Gulf as part of the United Nations Operation Augmentation, which was enforcing sanctions against Iraq.

Hero’s Ridge – 23-12-31 Tracy Schulz

Retired Master Corporal Mark  Savoie served 23 years in The Royal Canadian Air Force Communications Branch including 2 tours to Afghanistan. He is accompanied by his father  Retired Chief Warrant Officer. Joe  Savoie who served for 37 years in the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals.He was deployed to Alert and Cyprus This father and son have served our country for 60 years.

Hero’s Ridge – 24-01-13 Mark Savoie & Joe  Savoie

Retired Sergeant Michael Ostafichuk joined the Reserves in December 1985 as a medic. He remustered several years later to the Intelligence trade serving with the 2 Intelligence Company for the rest of his career Michael was deployed to Bosnia in 2000-2001 and conducted various other domestic operations including Y2K and the NATO Defence Ministers Conference. He retired in 2006 after 20 years of service to our country.

Hero’s Ridge – 24-01-16 Michael Ostafichuk

(Retired)Chief Warrant Officer Closs joined the Canadian Armed Forces as a Teletype and Signals operator in 1975. Her communications duties in Canada took her to Winnipeg,Kingston and Ottawa, Rose served as a NATO Peacekeeper in Bosnia and Herzegovina, at the  NATO Stabilization Force Headquarters where she was the Sergeant Major and Chief Communications Operator. She proudly served the Canadian Forces for 30 years until her retirement in 2006.

Karl O’Dwyer (Cpl ret’d) joined the Canadian Forces in 1978 as a Marine ElectricianIn his time as a Marine Electrician he served on destroyer, submarines and support ships on both the east and west coast. In 1987 he remustered as a Mobile Systems Equipment Operator serving in Ontario and Nova Scotia. In 1993 he served with the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda. Cpl O’Dywer retired from the CF in September 1998 with 20 years of service.

Hero’s Ridge – 24-01-20 Karl O’Dwyer

“Retired Major Harold “Padre Foz ” King served in the Chaplain’s Branch for a total of 23 years.  He has deployed to missions in Bosnia, Kandahar,  Kuwait,and 3 tours in Afghanistan. Padre Major King has five children, two grandchildren and has retired in his home province of New Brunswick with his wife who is both a military spouse and is an active member in the air force branch herself. Captain Holly King has served for 15 years and has been a huge support system for her family and her country.”

Hero’s Ridge – 24-01-25 Harold King

Colonel(Retired) Bert Boehme joined the Canadian Armed Forces  in 1972 in the Regular Officer Training Plan. Upon graduation from university and completion of Logistics Finance Training in 1975 he spent the next 35 years serving in bases in Canada. Bert was part of the United Nations Emergency Force II in Israel and Egypt  His last posting was in Ottawa where he was Director Air Strategic Review, leading the strategic review of all aerospace activities until his retirement in November 2010.

Hero’s Ridge – 24-01-27 Bert Boehme

Bill Skakle served in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1965-1982 as a member of Royal Canadian Military Engineers During his 18 years he served in various regions of Canada from Gagetown New Brunswick to Chilliwack BC and Alert.  Bill also served in Germany participating in many NATO exercises. Bill qualified as both a parachutist and a diver over the years. He said It was a great time in the Canadian Armed Forces and would do it all over again.

Retired Sergeant Shannon House joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1998 He started as a member of the infantry with the 2 Royal Canadian Regiment and was later recruited to the Canadian Special Operations Forces Command where he served for 20 years. During his career he was deployed 9 times, serving as peacekeeper in Cyprus and 1 tour in Iran,3 tours in Bosnia and 4 tours in Afghanistan and Shannon retired in 2021 after 32 years of service.

Jacques V.  Deneault enrolled in the Royal Canadian Air Force in May 1966 as a young Aircraftman 2nd Class. Jacques rose through the ranks and in 1987 received a Queen’s Commission. The highlight of his career was serving with NATO  in Brussels, as  the Human Resources Coordinator and Administrative Officer His final posting was as Staff Officer to the Director of Cadets and Coordinator of the Canadian Junior Rangers Program. He retired in April 2008 having served Canada for 42 years in both the regular force and the reserves.

Hero’s Ridge – 24-02-13 Jacques Deneault

Retired Master Warrant Officer. DANIEL LYNCH, joined the  Canadian Armed Forces in February 1969  as a Provost\Military Policeman. During  his career his duties took him across Canada . He also was deployed with the United Nations as peacekeeper in Cyprus, Egypt, Israel, and Syria serving in Beirut, Lebanon.Daniel retired in May 1994 after serving for over 25 years.

Richard joined the military as a reservist in 1989  with the Royal 22 nd Regiment (Vandoos) in 1989. In 2002 changed his trade for supply technician with theCanadian forces joint signal regiment. He was deployed as a UN Peacekeeper in Cyprus, the former Yugoslavia and Bosnia,Disaster relief in Haiti and Canada (Operation Ice Storm) He also was deployed to Afghanistan in 2007. Richard retired in 2018 after 29 years of service.

Warrant Officer (Ret'd) Michael Gagne joined the Canadian Armed Forces as a Supply Tech in 1978, His career took him to Winnipeg, Ottawa and Borden and a posting in Baden Baden , Germany. Michael was deployed in Cyprus , Alert and Afghanistan. He retired in 2014 with 33 years of service in the Logistics Branch after 33 years of service.

Hero’s Ridge – 24-02-24 Michael Gagne

Charles Usher enlisted in the Canadian Army in September of 1949 as a member of the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. In 1953 he volunteered to serve in Korea with the 25 Canadian Infantry Brigade as a Cipher Operator.He then served at the  British Commonwealth Base Signals, Kure Japan in 1954. Charles continued to serve and rise through the ranks when he returned to Canada, retiring as a Captain in 1986.

Sergeant Andrea MacDougall joined the reserves in 1997 and the regular force in 2005, as a musician. She has a masters degree from Laval University and performance certificate from Glen Gould school of Music. While she was in the reserves she was part of the Ceremonial Guard performing in Ottawa. Currently Andrea is a member of the Central Band which performs domestically and around the world including two tours in Latvia as part of “Operation Reassurance”. Sergeant Andrea MacDougall continues to serve Canada at this time.

William Roy Clarke joined the  Stormont Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders as an infantryman in July 1974. During his career he did a peacekeeping tour in the mid 70s to Egypt, was a Public Relations person during the Ice Storm in 1998. and was deployed to Afghanistan. After his tour in Afghanistan he became Commanding Officer of the SD AND G Highlanders. Roy retired in November 2011 after 37 years service.

Hero’s Ridge – 24-03-17 Roy Clarke

George Wood joined the Royal Canadian Signals in 1957. During his career he served in various parts of Canada.  He also was deployed as a member of the United Nations Emergency Forces in Egypt (1960-61) , 3 years in Germany with NATO (1961-64) and another UN Peacekeeping tour in Cyprus (1977-78). His last posting was in Ottawa where Master Warrant Officer retired in 1995 after 38 years service with the Canadian Armed Forces.  He continues to serve veterans as a proud member of Branch 192, Royal Canadian Legion.

Hero’s Ridge – 24-03-21 George Wood

Johanne joined the Canadian Reserve Forces  in February 1980 as a Combat Engineer, transfering to the Regular forces in September, 1980 as a Supply Tech. She then moved to the Airforce as a Flight Attendant with the 437 Sqn. Johanne served in various parts of Canada such as Whitehorse. Petawawa, Trenton, Montreal and Valcartier. She was deployed to Kosovo from Dec 1999 to June 2000, where she took care of children as a secondary tasking. When she got back Johanne was diagnosed with PTSD and was medically released in March 2003 after serving our country for 23 years. Johanne continued as a public servant for National Defence developing a program to help military families with PTSD.

Retired Warrant Officer Cameron Hillier joined Canadian Armed Forces in October 1990 as a Military Police Officer. His Canadian postings included CFB Gander, CFB Gagetown,and the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service, Halifax, In 2002 Cameron was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Apollo. in 2008-2012 he was posted to the Canadian Embassy in Moscow , Russia as the Mission Security Manager. Cameron retired from the Canadian Armed Forces in 2013 after 23 years of service.

Hero’s Ridge – 24-03-28 Cameron Hillier

Retired Sergeant Ronald Paul Riley joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1978 and sailed on both the east and west coasts. In 1981 he moved to the Royal Canadian Air Force where he became a Refinisher Technician.  In 1985 Ronald moved to the Canadian Army as a Materials Technician in Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry He served as peacekeeper in both Rwanda and the Golan Heights. Ronald retired in 2007 with 29 years of service having served all three branches of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Hero’s Ridge – 24-04-04 Ron Riley

George Guertin is a Canadian Armed Forces veteran and a Korean War veteran. He joined the Navy in 1951 and sailed out of Halifax for Korea on HMCS Huron in 1953.George served on seven Royal Canadian Navy ships as a leading seaman, radar operator and petty officer. Due to a serious accident in the Arctic, he had to retire after fifteen years of service. George is now a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion and vice president of Unit 7 of the Korean War Veterans Association.

Retired Chief Warrant Officer Garry J. Dowd enlisted in the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals in 1961.During his career in communications was posted to Petawawa, Kingston. Carp (the Deifenbunker) and Ottawa. His career also took him to CFS Lowther - Pine Tree Line. Garry also was posted around the world the Netherlands with NATO, Norfolk Virginia as part of NATO. He was part of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force in Damascus, Syria. Garry retired in 1994 after 33 years of service.
